About Me
I've started four novels myself. Four different stories, all sitting unfinished because I couldn't grasp what was missing. I'd read every "how to write a novel" book I could find, but nothing clicked—until I discovered the world of story structure through my book coaching training.
Suddenly, I could see it: the golden thread that weaves through every compelling narrative, the elegant architecture that turns chaos into art. During my training, I found myself easily spotting what shape a story needed and precisely what was missing from writers' manuscripts. Now, when I read for pleasure or watch television, I can't help but analyse the structural bones that make stories work.
This ability to see story architecture isn't accidental. For nearly thirty years, I taught Classics and English, with a Master's from Cambridge University specialising in Latin literature. My passion has always been analysing narrative—breaking down how ancient writers crafted stories that still resonate today. Even my mother, completing her PhD, turns to me when her academic writing needs clarity and flow.
Why Stories Matter to Me—And Why Women's Stories Matter Most
Stories have been my lifeline. In books, I've found solace during difficult times, discovered I wasn't alone in what I was feeling, and learned truths I couldn't have learned any other way. Stories have transported me beyond my own experience and helped me heal from wounds I didn't know how to name.
This is why I specialise in women's fiction, historical fiction, and romance—stories that explore authentic female experiences and relationships. These aren't "just" genre books. They're the stories that help other women feel seen, understood, and less alone in their struggles. They're the stories that validate our experiences and illuminate the complex realities of being female in this world.
Every woman writing one of these stories is offering a gift to readers who desperately need it. My role is to ensure that gift reaches them with the structural power and emotional clarity it deserves.
My Approach: The Nautilus Method
Like the nautilus shell's perfect spiral, every powerful story has an elegant underlying structure. My role is to help you discover that natural architecture within your manuscript—to show you how your story wants to unfurl from its centre to create a satisfying journey for your readers.
I don't impose external formulas on your work. Instead, I help you find the structural spine that's already there, waiting to be discovered.
My Joy: The Moment You "Get It"
Nothing energises me more than breaking complex concepts into manageable steps, exploring ideas through discussion, and witnessing that
magical moment when everything clicks for a writer. That spark of understanding, that "Yes, now I see how my story works!"—that's pure joy.
If you're ready to discover the elegant structure hidden within your manuscript's beautiful chaos, I'm here to guide you through it.
